Tom Kasulis receives a 2015 Distinguished Scholar Award

Professor Kasulis

Thomas P. Kasulis, professor of Comparative Studies and director of the Center for the Study of Religion, has received a 2015 Distinguished Scholar Award from OSU's Office of Research.

In addition to numerous articles, Dr. Kasulis is still well known for his 1981 book, Zen Action: Zen Person. He has also produced key translations, including The Body by Yasuo Yuasa (published in English in 1987); philosophical works of his own, such as Intimacy or Integrity: Philosophy and Cultural Difference (2002); and--especially significant for the field of Japanese philosophy--Dr. Kasulis co-edited, with James W. Heisig and John C. Maraldo, Japanese Philosophy: A Sourcebook (2011).

Recipients of the Distinguished Scholar Award are nominated by their departments and chosen by a committee of senior faculty, including past recipients of the award. Distinguished Scholars receive an honorarium and a research grant to be used over the next three years.
