Spring 2027 Visiting Scholar
The Center for the Study of Religion (CSR) will continue its visiting scholar program this April, hosting Dr. Maia Kotrosits.
Maia Kotrosits is an expert in first through fifth century Christianity, bridging Early Christian Studies, Religious Studies, Classics, and Cultural Studies. Her books include The Lives of Objects: Material Culture, Experience, and the Real in the History of Early Christianity (Chicago, 2020), Theory, History, and the Study of Religion in Late Antiquity (Cambridge, 2023), and most recently After Transformation: A Lyrical History of Christian Late Antiquity (Duke, 2025). She is the Editor-in-chief of the journal Biblical Interpretation
This ongoing initiative aims to support contingent and independent scholars by bringing them to OSU's main campus for a short-term residence, offering opportunities to participate in the center’s intellectual community. The pilot for this program, launched in March 2023, brought Dr. Lynn Gerber to OSU, where she met with students and faculty, presented a community talk on her research and engaged in other center activities. After the success of the pilot, CSR requested proposals for future visiting scholars and received over 50 applications this academic year.
