"Sacred and Ritual Mazatec Art," featuring works by Asunción Alvarado, will be on view from March 1 through March 29 at the Global Gallery Coffee Shop in Clintonville. Asunción Alvarado is a visual artist from Oaxaca, Mexico. Deeply influenced by his environment, he draws inspiration from the vibrant colors and picturesque landscapes of the Mazateca mountain range to create works of arte de la montaña y de ritual, a practice that honors the Oaxacan region's geography as a sacred setting for spiritual ceremony.
A reception will be held on Friday, March 27 at 6 pm as part of the “Religion and Psychedelics” conference, hosted by the Center for Psychedelic Drug Research and Education and the Center for the Study of Religion.
A food truck will be present. Street parking is available on the side streets adjacent to the coffee shop.
