Kati Fitzgerald is a PhD candidate in the Department of Comparative Studies and an Advanced Research Scholar at the Central University for Nationalities in Beijing. Her research focuses on lineage, transmission and authority in the oral traditions of Tibet and her dissertation, No Pure Lands: The Contemporary Buddhism of Tibetan Lay Women, uses ethnographic data collected in the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Region to argue for a definition of contemporary Buddhism based on the practices of Tibetan lay women. Her work has been supported by Fulbright IIE, The Robert NH Ho Foundation and Fulbright-Hays and been published in Asian Theatre Journal, Routledge Handbook of Asian Theatre, Revue d’Etudes Tibétaines and Asian Ethnology.
