165 Thompson Library

Professor Joshua Dubler will deliver the first lecture in the 2014-2015 University Lectures on Religion series. He is Assistant Professor of Religion at the University of Rochester. His lecture, like all others in the Center for the Study of Religion-sponsored series, is free and open to all. There will be a brief question-and-answer session and a reception following the lecture.

Abstract: Drawing on his recent book, Down in the Chapel (FSG, 2013), Dubler explores the role played by religious ideas and ideas about religion in nurturing mass incarceration in American. Special attention will be given to prisoners' religion--how it is practiced, how it has been regulated, and how it is popularly imagined.
